Printed Electronics Symposium in Nuremberg to focus on mobility and life science

Printed electronics: thin – flexible – lightweight. These attributes allow successful use of the technology in the fields of mobility and life science. Under the technical direction of Wolfgang Mildner, managing director of MSWtech, the printed electronics symposium in Nuremberg (4 and 5 July) will present technological possibilities, advantages and development potentials for the printing of electronic functions on the basis of conventional and organic materials.

Continuous film with printed biosensors: Fraunhofer IBMT has developed a convenient roll-to-roll process (photo: Fraunhofer IBMT)

Fraunhofer IBMT presents easy printing of biosensors made of graphene

Cell-based biosensors can simulate the effect of various substances, such as drugs, on the human body in the laboratory. Depending on the measuring principle, though, producing them can be expensive. As a result, they are often not used. Cost factors for sensors that perform measurements electrically are the expensive electrode material and complex production. Fraunhofer scientists are now producing biosensors with graphene electrodes cheaply and simply in roll-to-roll printing. A system prototype for mass production already exists.
