Fraunhofer FEP and partners jointly develop solution for the integration of radar sensors into the front headlights of a vehicle

As a result of modern advanced driver assistance systems, the use of radar technology has become indispensable for the automotive sector. A wide range of systems for adaptive speed control, lane-change support, collision avoidance, and pedestrian and cyclist detection has paved the way for autonomous driving. With the installation of a large and growing number of sensors together with the limited availability of suitably exposed space for them on the vehicle body, there is almost no space left for the installation of sensors.

Imec and Ghent University present smart contact lens

Imec, a leading research and innovation hub in nanoelectronics and digital technologies and CMST (an imec-affiliated research group at Ghent University), together with their partners at the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Fundación Jiménez Díaz (Madrid, Spain) and Holst Centre (an open innovation initiative from imec and TNO, The Netherlands), recently presented an artificial iris embedded in a smart contact lens.

InnovationLab, an expert in printed and organic electronics, announced a partnership with Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg, Germany). By working with the world's leading manufacturer of sheetfed offset presses, the company is able to produce cost-effective printed and organic sensors in large quantities. For the first time, the cooperation enables the development and production of customised pressure sensors on an industrial scale and at economic costs.
