R&D teams of Dresden-based Heliatek GmbH have reached a record conversion efficiency of 13.2% for an OPV multi-junction cell, setting a new world record for the direct conversion of sunlight into electricity using organic photovoltaic cells. The measurement was independently confirmed by Fraunhofer CSP (centre for silicon photovoltaics) in Halle, Germany.
For the German pavilion at the EXPO 2015 in Milano, Italy, architects have found new ways to incorporate photovoltaics. The building is the first big international architecture project, which uses new products based on organic photovoltaic technology (OPV). In contrast to conventional solar modules, the flexible, foil-integrated OPV modules by German-based BELECTRIC OPV GmbH can be integrated easily into the innovative architectural design.
The organic electronics energy provider Heliatek’s organic solar films HeliaFilm are part of a pilot project in Singapore focusing on future sustainable urban development. The German company partners with vTrium Energy, a Singapore-based supplier of clean technology sustainable solutions, in the implementation of the world’s most powerful and Asia’s largest BIOPV (building integrated organic photovoltaic) project.
