LG Display, a producer of display technologies based in South Korea, recently announced that it has developed a 18-inch flexible OLED panel that is rollable as well as a 18-inch transparent OLED panel. With these new panels the company wants to show that it has already acquired fundamental technologies to lead the large-sized flexible and transparent display market.
The Taiwanese Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), a nonprofit research and development organisation working in applied research and technical services, has initiated a new forum to jointly advance the countries OLED technology named Organic Light-emitting Diode Lighting Commercialization Alliance (OLCA).
In applications like OLEDs and OPV there are known problems at the interface between the metallic contacts and the organic semiconductor, where undesirable losses occur. Now Dr Martin Oehzelt of the German Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin has shown what these losses between the different materials depend upon and how to minimise them.
