LOPEC 2017 in Munich: Printed electronics are revolutionising vehicle manufacturing

Printed and organic electronic components give vehicle designers previously unimagined possibilities, enable a higher level of sustainability, and also help to reduce the automotive industry’s manufacturing costs. This is the conclusion reached by this year’s LOPEC Panel Discussion, which took place on 29 March 2017, as part of the international exhibition and conference for printed electronics in Munich, Germany. According to the panellists—Dr Nina Riegel from OSRAM OLED, Dr Giovanni Nisato from CSEM, Armin Senne from ContiTech, and Vincent Sallé from Parlex—printed electronics is on the cusp of entering the mass market.

VTT unveils flexible electronic devices with roll-to-roll overmoulding technology

The VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has, for the first time, performed all manufacturing stages for a flexible in-moulded LED foil in a roll-to-roll process. The purpose of this demo is to prove the suitability of the technique for the highly cost-effective manufacture of products such as flexible LED displays containing printed electronics.

Expected sales revenue for 2017 and 2018 (source: OE-A)

Organic and printed electronics industry expects an increase of 8% in sales revenue in 2017

The signs are still set for growth in the organic and printed electronics industry. This is the clear message to result from the latest business climate survey conducted by the OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Association). 80% of survey participants expect the industry to continue its positive development in the coming year. The results of the survey, carried out for the seventh time, were presented by OE-A Chair Dr Jeremy Burroughes to the international press at LOPEC 2017 – the leading international trade fair and conference for organic and printed electronics – in Munich, Germany.
