Fraunhofer FEP presents project on biodegradable electronics

Under the direction of the Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam and Plasma Technology FEP (Dresden, Germany), an in-house Fraunhofer project for the development of biodegradable electronics was launched last year. The Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS, the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering IBMT, the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC, and the Fraunhofer Resource Recycling and Strategy Project Group IWKS are working together on the project. The first results of Fraunhofer FEP will be presented during Semicon Europe 2017 as part of productronica 2017 in Munich, Germany, from 14-17 November 2017.

Holst Centre, imec and Philips demo world’s first curved, plastic photodetector

Researchers from Holst Centre (Eindhoven, The Netherlands), imec (Leuven, Belgium) and Royal Philips (Eindhoven) have produced the first ever prototype of a curved photodetector on a plastic substrate. The breakthrough paves the way for smaller optical and 3D imaging X-ray systems with better, more uniform image quality. A prototype curved X-ray detector has been integrated into a medical cone-beam CT (CBCT) demonstrator that will be presented at the IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium and Medical Imaging Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on 22 October.
