OLED production using wet coating

The Japanese companies Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Pioneer Corporation recently announced the successful development of organic light emitting diode (OLED) elements using a wet coating process. Both companies have agreed to set up a testing facility with the aim to reach mass production.

Among the guests were Prof Dr Sabine Schorlemerm, Saxony's State Minister for Arts and Sciences, and Prof Dr Ulrich Buller, member of the board of directors of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

BASF SE based in Germany and Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands have achieved a practical breakthrough in the development of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology that allows it to be integrated in car roofs. When switched off the OLEDs are transparent, allowing a clear view outside the vehicle. When switched on they provide light only within the vehicle.
