How can printed electronics be useful for monitoring sleeping babies or to support people who lost their leg? And what role can printed electronics components play for the gaming world? The answers to these exciting questions will be given at LOPEC 2022, the international platform for printed electronics, from 22-24 March live at ICM, Messe München.
Advances in microsystems technology and microelectronics are increasing the demand for measurements of structural details, for example to characterise channel depths and edge profiles on a lab-on-a-chip, to determine step heights, co-planarity and other packaging parameters, or to characterise MEMS based on their 3D structural profiles and derived surface parameters, such as roughness, flatness and deformation. With the TopMap Micro.View+, Polytec (Waldbronn, Germany) has a high-resolution microscope-based white-light interferometer in its range for such applications.
This week, at the 2022 International Solid-State Circuits Conference (2022 ISSCC), imec, a world-leading research and innovation hub in nanoelectronics and digital technologies, KU Leuven, and PragmatIC Semiconductor (Cambridge, UK), a world leader in flexible electronics, present the fastest 8-bit microprocessor in 0.8µm metal-oxide flexible technology capable of running real-time complex assembly code. The microprocessor was implemented with a unique digital design flow that allowed the creation of a new standard cell library for metal-oxide thin-film technologies – relevant for designing a broad range of loT applications. The robust thin-film technology offered by imec’s foundry partner PragmatIC Semiconductor was key to integrate the approximately ~16 000 metal-oxide thin-film transistors on a 24.9mm2 flexible chip.
