Inauguration ceremony of the new Merck OLED Application Center

Merck, a leading healthcare, life science and performance materials company based in Darmstadt, Germany, has inaugurated an OLED Application Center (OAC) in Pyeongtaek, Korea. The official opening ceremony took place on 28 May 2015 and was attended by several distinguished guests from politics and the industry.

To strengthen its commitment to OLED research, Merck invested over €7M in order to establish the OLED Application Center. The plan was part of efforts to further increase customer satisfaction and capture competitive advantages by better serving Korean customers and helping to shorten their time to market. “This investment is based on our continued faith in Korea’s leadership of the global display industry and confidence in the industry’s long-term growth,” said Johannes Baillou, chairman of the board of partners of Merck.

Merck Korea’s project team spent one year on the design and construction of the new building and was supported by the company’s own engineering team from Darmstadt. The building features cleanroom facilities and equipment that meet international standards. Fire protection and safety were top priorities. With construction having been completed last February, the complex has been commissioned and the first blue device was successfully produced on 2 April 2015.
