“LOPEC is a must for technology leaders”
LOPEC will be all about flexible, organic and printed electronics at the Messe München ICM from 28 February to 2 March 2023. Dr Martin Lechner, Executive Director at Messe München, discusses the importance of the event, this year’s focus topics, and why LOPEC is a must for technology leaders.
Dr Lechner, LOPEC will start in two weeks – what’s the response in the industry?
The response to LOPEC is outstanding and reflects the steadily growing significance of printed electronics that is increasingly becoming a part of our everyday lives. We expect a record trade fair attendance in 2023 with around 170 exhibitors, making it an increase of about 10 percent, and almost 15 percent more floor space. With more than 180 presentations by top-class representatives from industry and research, this year’s LOPEC Conference once again underscores its status as the leading international communication platform, where the industry comes together once a year to discuss innovations and trends.
What makes LOPEC special?
LOPEC is known as THE meeting place worldwide for flexible, organic and printed electronics. Each year, it brings together the key players in the industry and covers the entire spectrum of printed electronics. It offers many ways to experience which products are on the market, where this exciting technology currently stands, and the vast potential it still has to offer. For example at the Innovation Showcase, which will present the latest product innovations such as ultra-thin heating elements for e-cars or data glasses for the metaverse. At the booth of our partner OE-A a 3-D printed drone and skis that “feel” will be showcased. All these applications make it very easy to understand why printed electronics will change our future lives. And that’s why technology leaders should definitely visit LOPEC, since that’s where they will find the know-how to make their products more lightweight, less expensive, and more environmentally friendly.
What topics is LOPEC focusing on this year?
The focus will be on the fields of Smart Living and Mobility, in which a number of groundbreaking innovations will be showcased. Printed electronics offers an enormous range of products and solutions that make our daily life easier and smarter. At the same time, many of these applications contribute directly to sustainability, since printed electronics can make a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions. The printing processes, for example, are very energy efficient compared to conventional production, use non-toxic chemicals, require less material, and generate less waste. The end products, in turn, are more lightweight and smaller, and hence help reduce energy consumption. We are proud that Messe München is driving forward sustainable technologies with its communication platforms like LOPEC, which accelerate knowledge exchange and thus contribute to combating the climate crisis.
