Heraeus Epurio innovates smart mobility

The company unveiled its developed conductive polymers used to enhance energy efficiency and user experience in the automotive sector together with their partner Dongwoo Fine-Chem.
Heraeus Epurio, based in Leverkusen, Germany, unveiled advancements in smart mobility at LOPEC 2025, highlighting the transformative potential of its pioneering Clevios conductive polymers for next-generation automotive applications. Visitors witnessed live demonstrations of cutting-edge technologies designed to enhance user experiences, sustainability, and energy efficiency in modern vehicles.
At the forefront of Heraeus Epurio’s showcase was the Solar Smart Window, an innovation developed with our partner Dongwoo Fine-Chem. Equipped with variable polariser liquid crystal technology, this system is powered by a transparent organic photovoltaic module, designed to harness solar energy for efficient operation, and Clevios transparent conductive polymer electrodes. This dimmable solution allows precise control of light transmission via an intuitive interface, optimising natural light for enhanced comfort and energy efficiency. The self-powered window exemplifies sustainable innovation, ideal for smart sunroofs and dynamic vehicle or building glazing.
Next to the potential for sustainability, the versatility of Clevios conductive polymers was demonstrated for tailored smart textiles in automotive interiors. Developed in partnership with AI SILK Japan, LEAD SKIN technology embeds conductive coatings into polyester fibers and synthetic leather, achieving an ultra-low sheet resistance of 1 ohm/m². Applications include a biometric-monitoring steering wheel that tracks driver vital signs without compromising comfort, and pressure-sensitive seat cushions for real-time load measurement in car seats. These solutions merge seamless functionality with luxurious aesthetics, extending potential uses to sports, fitness, and entertainment sectors.
