E Ink’s customer PPDS launches first 32-inch Philips Tableaux ePaper Display using E Ink Spectra 6
E Ink (Billerica, Massachusetts), the originator, pioneer, and global commercial leader in ePaper technology, and their customer PPDS have announced the latest evolution of the multi-award-winning ePaper signage range, with the launch of the new 32-inch (16:9) Philips Tableaux 5150I Series using E Ink Spectra 6.
E Ink launched Spectra 6 in April 2023 at Touch Taiwan, showcasing a level of colour saturation and vividness not previously seen in a reflective display, with a visual performance similar to high quality prints, while still maintaining E Ink’s low power signature.
Digital transformation has driven retailers to accelerate the adoption of digital signage. With the priority on sustainable development and ESG initiatives, E Ink’s ePaper features of sunlight readability, low power consumption, and compatibility with solar power systems, make it a sustainable display technology. According to research conducted by E Ink, if 100 000 ePaper signage operate for 20 hours a day, update their ads twenty times per hour, and last for five years, the use of ePaper signage is estimated to reduce CO2 emissions by 500 000 tonnes compared to LCD signage. Compared to traditional paper posters that are printed once and disposed of, the use of ePaper signage can reduce CO2 emissions by about 21 million tonnes. Using low-power E Ink displays can enable retailers and advertisers the ability to reach their sustainability goals, while still providing timely updates seamlessly.
Scheduled to debut at a launch event in November, with its first global showcasing at ISE 2024 in Barcelona (30 Jan – 2 Feb 2024), PPDS will be the first customer to come out with the new 31.5-inch E Ink Spectra module. The Philips Tableaux 5150I can be used as a standalone solution or as part of a fleet of displays across multiple locations around the world, and can be managed manually, or remotely using third-party or PPDS’s inhouse software.
"As a business driven by teamwork, at PPDS we truly value our partnership with E Ink and we are delighted to continue leading the ePaper signage market forward with their groundbreaking technology,” said Martijn van der Woude, VP Global Marketing and Business Development at PPDS. “The reaction to the launch of our Philips Tableaux has been huge – well beyond our expectations. With today’s 32-inch announcement, and with PPDS becoming the first to confirm an ePaper display on the E Ink Spectra 6 platform, we fully expect that trend to continue.”
"We are excited to work with PPDS to launch the first 31.5-inch E Ink Spectra 6 product into the signage market,” said Johnson Lee, CEO of E Ink. “E Ink is committed to creating sustainable display solutions, and we work closely with our partners to roll out products that provide end consumers with needed information, while being incredibly energy efficient.”
Due to E Ink’s unique image stability, the 32-inch 5150I model can display static imagery without drawing on any energy source, only requiring low power when content is being updated. For fixed installations, and in environments where regular image changes are required, the Philips Tableaux 5150I features Power over Ethernet (PoE), ensuring both power and connectivity for remote management.
Details on availability and pricing will be announced by PPDS in early 2024, with demonstrations due to take place throughout ISE in Barcelona and InfoComm in Las Vegas next year.
