DuPont Teijin Films, a UK-based, polyester film-producing joint venture between DuPont and Teijin Limited, has been recognised with the Technical Development Materials Award at the IDTechEx Printed Electronics Conference and Tradeshow 2015 in Berlin, Germany. The award was given for the most significant technical development over the last 24 months in the material development field. The material, which won this award, is Melinex PCS, a polyester film that is reported to provide a clean on-demand surface, for use as a substrate in deposition processes for the manufacture of barrier films.

This unique polyester film with a peelable clean surface (PCS) is said to provide high barrier film producers with an inherently defect-free film surface for the deposition of thin inorganic and organic barrier layers, thus providing a needed breakthrough in the pursuit of high yield, long lifetime flexible electronic devices such as OLED, QD LCD and OPV.

“The drive towards flexible electronics applications has created a pressing need for high performance barrier films in a wide range of application areas,” said Thane Gough, flexible electronics business development manager for DuPont Teijin Films. “We are confident that Melinex PCS will provide a viable route to a cost-effective barrier material, and enable the commercialisation of high-volume flexible devices for current and future consumer electronics applications.”
