The solar concrete wall at RECKLI's headquarters in Herne

Europe’s first solar concrete wall has recently been inaugurated at the headquarters of German-based RECKLI GmbH, a supplier of elastic formliners, formworks and elastomers in the construction sub-supplier industry. The façade, designed by RECKLI to fit the HeliaFilm solar film from Heliatek GmbH, represents a novel approach to BIOPV (Building Integrated Organic Photovoltaics). Heliatek is located in Dresden and specialises in organic electronics energy generation.

The FlexCam metrology module from 4D Technology

The 4D Technology Corporation, a manufacturer of optical metrology systems based in Tucson (AZ), USA, has recently unveiled its new FlexCam metrology module. The new device is a compact, high-resolution 3D metrology system for in-situ roll-to-roll measurement of flexible electronics. FlexCam modules are reported to provide sub-nanometre vertical resolution and micrometre-scale lateral resolution for in-process roughness and defect quantification for the measurement of substrates, barrier films and intermediate layers.

Fraunhofer FEP's anti-reflective coatings

The German-based Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam and Plasma Technology (FEP) has developed a coating, which is required to expand the diameter of a laser beam by more than a factor of one hundred. With this coating, backlighting for holographic displays can be realised in the future. The main aim of the project is to provide an approach for 3D television sets that work without annoying 3D glasses. Holographic displays would be a giant step in this direction. Moreover, medical scientists could inspect spatial images of the inside of the body and observe detailed movements of organs.
